One of the key factors to getting your credit back under control, with in turn
will allow you to buy your own home, is being able to save money where you can.
This will let you make extra payments to credit card balances if need be, or pay
for any emergencies that crop up, or even buy something outright as opposed to putting
it on credit.
However, saving can be easier said than done, especially if you’re already working
on a tight budget to begin with. Money’s already tight, so where can you make these
extra savings that can be so important in getting back on track credit-wise? Using
some of the following tips will help you save even the smallest amount that ultimately
adds up to a payment somewhere else or money in your savings account.
Turn off any unused electricity. These bills rack up quickly- what you don’t
need, don’t uses. The water companies increase your cost per gallon once you
reach a certain amount. If that toilet has a slow steady sound when you flush
it replace the flusher because that can really be costly every month you use
more water.
Leave the water off when brushing your teeth or washing the dishes.
Stick to your shopping list. Just because it is on sale or it looks good
does not mean buy it. Plan your purchases.
Don’t always buy premium brands, sometimes generic names are as good and
much more cost effective.
If your drug plan covers certain medications and you are on a non covered
medication see if you can use the cheaper medication if it is as effective.
Drink tap water instead of bottled water
Drink coffee that you make as opposed to coffee shop specialty drinks.
Use a library if you like to read as opposed to buying books.
Pay the minimum payments on credit cards and pick one or two to pay more
so you can pay one off at a time instead of running large amounts on all of
them and only paying the interest payment each month.
Stay home and watch TV or DVDs instead of going to the theatre. If you do
go to the theatre refrain from buying the food that is there and overpriced.
Use online banking and make electronic payments. You will keep better track
of your finances and decrease the cost of processing.
Take lunch to work instead of going out. If you save $5 per day on lunch
alone that is 100 bucks a month.
If possible, car pool with friends or family when going to work or school.
Pay with cash whenever you can not only with this save interest payments,
it also keeps you in check since you are unlikely to buy something you really
can’t afford if you can not use your credit card.
These are just a few simple tips that will help you save money even on the tightest
of budgets. The most important thing to do is live within your means. Too many people
fall into debt by trying to keep up with their neighbors or friends, and this is
a common get dangerous mistake to make. Your neighbor may make twice what you earn,
or in debt up to their eyeballs. You do not want to fall into debt because you are
trying to keep up with someone.
By living within your means and cutting down on spending that you do not need
you will find it easier to save towards buying a home, paying off bills, improving
your credit and moving into your new home sooner.
